"No chance" of Clarke return

Down's Marty Clarke
There is "no chance" of Marty Clarke coming home from Australia to tog out for Down this summer.

Rumours have been doing the rounds in the Mourne County that the 2010 All Star was set to sever his ties with AFL outfit Collingwood and make a dramatic return to championship football.

But Marty's brother - former Down footballer John Clarke - has shot those rumours down:

"The rumours probably came about when Marty got taken off in Collingwood's first game of the season," John comments in The Irish News.

"He took a bit of criticism in the press over there and and there were rumours he was going to throw the head up. Marty would be mentally very strong and wouldn't let things like that get him down.

"This is Marty's last year of his contract and he's really determined to see it out and hopefully get a contract extension.

"In the short term, he has no real notion of coming home. The AFL season is over in September and he's coming home to get married in October.

"The earliest he'll be home is the end of September and then he'll look at next season. As for coming home before then, there is no chance."
