Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice believes that more players will go to ground when tackled in order to see black card's handed out to their opponents.

The rules state that a black card should be issued for deliberately pulling down an opponent, but if the player fouled doesn't go to ground, then a black card need not be issued.

Last Sunday, Fitzmaurice saw his full back Mark Griffin black carded after Alan Freeman had gone to ground rather easily following a challenge by the Kerry defender.

At the other end of the field, Mayo's Andy Moran committed a similar on Daithi Casey, but the Kerry forward remained on his feet and thus Moran escaped punishment.

Fitzmaurice told the Kerryman that players will use the rule to their advantage unless a change is made.

"It's about working the rule," said Fitzmaurice. "At the end there, Mark Griffin's one, the Mayo player went to ground, Daithi Casey didn't go to ground in the first half so it's one of the loopholes in it.

"If Daithi had gone to ground at the time when Andy Moran pulled him back, Andy Moran would have probably got a black card, but within the rules it wasn't a black card. I think as the championship goes on and as more coaches get their heads around it you'll see more players go to ground when they are fouled."
