Colm McFadden scored 1-4 as Donegal continued their preparations for the new season with a nine-point SF challenge victory over Roscommon in Convoy yesterday.

Teenager Darach O'Connor, who is a son of former Roscommon star John 'Jigger' O'Connor, also found the net for Jim McGuinness' men, who open their 2014 campaign against Tyrone in the McKenna Cup next Sunday.

Having trailed by 0-4 to 1-7 at the break, Roscommon resumed with two points each from Donie Shine and Cathal Cregg to leave just two in it after 42 minutes. But the loss of Shine to a black card offence three minutes later effectively ended their comeback hopes as the hosts ran out comfortable winners.

O'Connor's early goal saw Donegal open up a commanding 1-5 to 0-1 lead before scores from Cregg and Shine left six between the sides at the interval.

The visitors narrowed the gap further early in the second half, but Shine's departure saw the momentum swing back in Donegal's favour and McFadden put the result beyond doubt with their second goal in the 53rd minute.
