Ulster club JFC final: McMahon goal the difference
November 30, 2013
Emyvale's Daniel McMahon
Emyvale (Monaghan) 1-6
Killeeshil (Tyrone) 0-6
Daniel McMahon's fisted first half goal proved decisive as Emyvale defeated near neighbours Killeeshil to be crowned Ulster club junior football champions at the Athletic Grounds this evening.
In a game of few scoring opportunities, McMahon's 21st minute major was all-important for the Monaghan men who can now look forward to an All-Ireland quarter-final joust with John Mitchell's of Liverpool in a fortnight's time. After the sides had traded early scores, Killeeshil moved into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead thanks to scores from Shane Mallon (free) and former Tyrone star Kevin Hughes.
Points from Daniel McMahon and Martin McAree (free) had brought Emyvale level before McMahon's goal helped them to a 1-3 to 0-3 interval lead. Killeeshil might have gone in level if Hughes had managed to take a goal chance in the 23rd minute.
Mallon and McMahon exchanged points on the restart before efforts from Packie McMullen ('45) and Mallon left the minimum in it, 0-6 to 1-4, with 42 minutes elapsed. But Seamus McCallan's charges failed to score again as Emyvale hit back with points from David McAllister and Daithi Colton to secure victory.
