Loughgiel Shamrocks survived an almighty scare before collecting their fourth Ulster Club SHC title in a row against Slaughtneil at Celtic Park yesterday.

The challengers from Derry were quick out of the trap and raced into a 1-6 to 0-1 lead after centre-back Cormac McKenna fired a 21m free to the Loughgiel net.

The champions were very much on the ropes but two goals from Eddie McCloskey narrowed the gap and they trailed by 2-4 to 1-11 at the halfway stage.

Slaughtneill were left to rue a missed penalty by Cormac McKenna and Loughgiel rubbed salt into their wounds when Shea Casey netted his side's third goal shortly after.

PJ O'Mullan's charges made the most of their get out of jail card to get their hands on the silverware.
