Derry SFC final: Ballinderry complete three-in-a-row
October 07, 2013

Ballinderry's Kevin McGuckin and Ballinascreen's Carlus McWilliams. INPHO
Ballinderry 3-10
Ballinascreen 2-7
Ballinderry recovered from a shaky start to claim their third Derry SFC title on the trot at the expense of Ballinascreen in Celtic Park.
Ballinascreen's hopes of causing an upset were given an early boost when Michael McBride's goal gave them a 1-2 to 0-2 lead. But goals from wing backs Darren Lawn and Michael McIver in the 21st and 22nd minutes propelled the Shamrocks into a 2-5 to 1-2 lead, and a further point from Conor Nevin saw them lead by 2-6 to 1-2 at the break.
The game was up for Ballinascreen when Daniel McKinless fisted home a third Ballinderry goal at the end of the third quarter. Paul Burns managed a late consolation goal for the losers who were left to rue two missed penalties.
The first came just before half-time when Benny Heron sent wide after Gareth McKinless had been penalised for a foot-block. Heron struck the crossbar from his second spot kick four minutes from the end.
