Inniskeen 0-13
Castleblayney Faughs 1-9
In the first county senior hurling final of the year, Inniskeen edged out holders Castleblayney in an exciting Monaghan decider at Clontibret yesterday.
Ronan Meegan played a captain's part by notching all but two points of the Inniskeen tally as the Louth-border club celebrated only their second ever Monaghan SHC success. 'Blayney led entering the closing stages, but Meegan converted two late frees to give Inniskeen the win.
The holders held a slender 0-5 to 0-4 advantage at the break, and they looked set to retain their title when Gerry Brady scored the only goal four minutes after the restart. But Inniskeen refused to throw in the towel and finished the stronger to take the spoils.
Scorers - Inniskeen: R Meegan (0-11, 0-10 frees), K Crawley and M Murphy (0-1 each). Castleblayney: F Rafter (0-4 free), G Brady (1-0), G Boyd and S Forde (0-1 each).
