Poland hails Moyna impact

Down's Mark Poland has Leitrim's Dermot Reynolds for company.
Down captain Mark Poland attributed yesterday's comeback victory over Derry to the high levels of fitness they've achieved under trainer Niall Moyna.

"There were three or four weeks after the Dublin game and before and after the Kildare game (in the Allianz League) that the training, I never did anything like it in my life. It was just verging on brutality," he said in the Irish News.

"There were nights at training when we thought it was over - and Niall had different ideas. But that's what we needed. I don't think the team has been as fit.

"There has been tough training down through the years, but Niall, with his background at DCU, you're more or less training like professionals. Thankfully today we had the legs and I'm sure we could have gone on for another 10 or 15 minutes."
