Leinster JFC: Dowd wins it for Longford

May 30, 2013

Longford's Paddy Dowd. INPHO
Longford 0-12
Wexford 0-11

A free by former senior star Paddy Dowd with four minutes remaining proved decisive as Longford pipped Wexford in last night's Leinster JFC clash at Farmleigh.

The visitors started brightly with points from Dowd, Kevin Burke and Marty Mulvey helping them to a 0-3 to 0-1 lead after just four minutes. They extended their advantage to 0-6 to 0-3 by the end of the first quarter, but three points from former All Star Matty Forde left Wexford just a point adrift, 0-7 to 0-8, at the interval.

Longford looked set to prevail when Marty Mulvey put them two points clear, 0-10 to 0-8, at the end of the third quarter, but the hosts fought back to level before Dowd's late free decided it.
