Harte rues missed chances

Mickey Harte was lamenting Tyrone's inability to turn possession into scores after their defeat to Donegal.

The Red Hands were left to rue 12 wides compared to Donegal's four as they succumbed to the All-Ireland champions for the third year-in-a-row.

"You are always disappointed when you lose games when you are creating lots of chances and we did that in both halves, particularly before they scored their first goal," the long-serving manager reflected.

"In the second half, when it was nine-all, we had chances to put ourselves two or three up and didn't take them, but the way it turned out it was a coast for Donegal in the last 10 minutes after we lost Joe McMahon (to a second yellow card).

"We were never going to win the game after that. It was damage limitation."

Harte paid tribute to the victors, who will now face either Derry or Down for a place in the Ulster final.

"They are a very strong side and I think they are improving season on season," he continued.

"That was evidenced out there by how they managed that game. So they have a very good gameplan and it is working very well for them. Their players are growing in confidence and there is no doubt they are very serious contenders for the All-Ireland."
