Louth manager Aidan O'Rourke was a happy camper after his side demolished Laois with 10 points to spare in the GAA Leinster Senior Football Championship at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise this afternoon.

O'Rourke felt this performance was coming from his side after seeing the potential in his new troops during their Allianz National Football League Division 2 campaign.

"They played really well and I'm delighted for them. Probably the whole way through the league that performance was in us. We had only been playing for 30 or 40 minutes at a time and we knew if we could put 55 minutes or 60 together of football together someday we would be very difficult to deal with and that was the case today," he said..

"Laois are a lot better team than that and we are very thankful that we got them on an off day. I just had time for a brief word with Justin after, and I was saying how it was a freak result. We played really, really well and Laois just had one of those days.

"We have all had them and I'm thankful to take every rub of the green that we can get.

"Credit also has to go to the Louth boys who produced that performance and they did."

O'Rourke felt that his sides only goal of the tie - a palmed effort from Shane Lennon in the 26th minute was a timely score.

"We were very, very dominant around the middle of the field. Our forward line was playing very, very well.

"I think we forced a few chances and we probably should have been further ahead, but I think the goal was just desserts. There had been a few chances go astray before that."

O'Rourke was delighted to see goal-scorer Lennon back to his prime in Championship action, after missing out last year's campaign through injury.

"Shane has had a frustrating 18 months to two years," he said.

"He has worked extremely hard over the Winter and he is getting his reward now in terms of the shape that he is in and the football that he is playing.

"But, Shane would be the first to tell you that he is only as good as the service he gets and the teamwork out the field was extraordinary today.
