Mullingar's Niall Horan and his One Direction band-mates are set to pack out Croke Park next year.

The world's biggest boyband have announced that they will perform at the Jones' Road venue as part of their 'Where We Arena" tour on May 24, 2014. In doing so, they will follow in the footsteps of top acts such as U2, Take That and Westlife to take over the stadium and perform to 80,000 fans.

It had been rumoured that One Direction could play at Cusack Park, Mullingar this September, but their Irish fans will have to wait a little longer to see them perform on these shores.

Niall Horan tweeted in the past hour: "So excited about having announced the first legs of the stadium tour. So looking forward to announcing more dates soon!!!!!!!" Tweet
