Conroy seeking overdue success

Galway's Paul Conroy
Galway has failed to win a Connacht SFC title since 2008 and Paul Conroy describes that as 'not acceptable'.

Star forward Conroy and his team-mates will square up to a Mayo team that is chasing a third provincial title success in a row at Pearse Stadium on Sunday.

"It's probably not acceptable really that the last time we won it was in 2008. It's been too long," he told the Irish Daily Star.

"Obviously we are working hard to trying to change that. From the start of the year we didn't have a great championship and personally it was up and down.

"Every time you go out you have to perform to the best of your ability and that's what I'll be focussing on.

"We had an up and down league campaign, consistency was our biggest problem.

"We didn't have a lot of lads through injury and stuff but he league doesn't matter now. This is what it's all about.

"It's what people go to see and fingers crossed we give a good account of ourselves.

"I remember going to these games when I was young with my father - there would only ever be a point or two in it. In recent years Roscommon and Sligo have turned teams over so I don't think the gap is there as much."
