The late Republic of Ireland soccer midfielder Tony Grealish came from a GAA background.

Born in Paddington, London, to Irish parents, Tony had the distinction of playing both soccer and gaelic football at Wembley (he captained Brighton in the 1983 FA Cup final).

Tony's father Packie was originally from the Galway hurling stronghold of Athenry and was a founder member of the St Gabriel's club in London.

Before going on to win 45 international caps for Ireland, Grealish would have lined out for St Gabriels and London as a young man.

His cousin John scored the winning goal for the Gabriels in last year's county SHC final and Tony's brother Brian also represented the Exiles on the senior intercounty stage.
