Blog: Business as usual for Cats

April 22, 2013
It was business as usual for Kilkenny in the Semple Stadium yesterday.

As expected, their inspirational manager's absence from the sideline galvanised the players and they booked a placed in the league final for the ninth time in 12 years at Galway's expense.

Tipperary, meanwhile, has, re-emerged as the main contenders to Kilkenny's throne.

The Premier County highlighted the gulf in class between Division 1A and 1B when ruthlessly dismantling Anthony Daly's side by 4-20 to 0-17 in the opener at Semple Stadium.

The final in Nowlan Park on Sunday week is one to look forward to!

GAA miss out on bumper pay day

Kildare's U21s buckled under the weight of expectation at O'Connor Park, Tullamore on Saturday.

Kieran McGeeney's young charges only have themselves to blame for the defeat by Galway as they clocked up 19 wides during the course of the 60 minutes.

The GAA have missed out on a bumper pay day with the Lilywhites and Cavan - who narrowly lost out to Cork in the second semi-final - failing to make the national decider.

They are two of the best supported counties in the country and a final between the Leinster and Ulster champions would have guaranteed a big turnout on final day.

It's unlikely that Cork and Galway will attract too big a crowd.

All is not rosy in the garden for Glynn

Wicklow dual player Leighton Glynn won't recall his intercounty managerial debut with any great fondness in the future.

The Garden County star - who is still sidelined from a leg injury sustained in last summer's Leinster SFC defeat by Meath - was powerless to prevent his minor hurlers from shipping a 8-10 to 1-11 defeat at the hands of Kildare on Sunday.

The big story of the weekend as regards the minor grade, however, was Offaly's comeback against Meath in the Leinster MFC at Pairc Tailteann.

The Faithful County youngsters trailed last year's defeated All-Ireland finalists by nine points at the 25th minute mark but ended up on the right side of the 6-10 to 3-8 scoreline.

That's a turnaround of 20 points!
