Limerick legend Mick Mackey looks set to be immortalised in his native town.

The Ahane club have lodged plans with the Limerick County Council to erect a bronze statue of Mackey in Castleconnell.

Regarded as one of the greatest hurlers to have played the game, a roundabout in Limerick has already been named after Mackey.

During a glittering career, Mackey won three All-Ireland titles with Limerick as well as numerous other honours. Tweet
