March 10, 2013
Westmeath 2-13
Derry 0-9
Westmeath bounced back from their first round defeat to Kerry with this 10-point victory over Derry at Cusack Park.
Brian Hanley's charges trailed by 0-5 to 0-6 at the interval, but took control when favoured by the strong wind in the second half. Niall O'Brien's goal propelled them into a 1-6 to 0-7 lead before veteran John Shaw wrapped up the two points with the Lake County's second major.
The visitors - who recorded an impressive first round win over Wicklow - had led by 0-5 to 0-2 midway through the first half, but faded badly after the restart.
