Selection problems for Phelan

London hurling manager Eamonn Phelan admits that it's difficult to find a settled squad.

Time is certainly against the exiles in this regard as a number of players made their debuts for the hurlers last Sunday, having featured in club championship matches over the past couple of weeks.

London began the campaign with an impressive win over Armagh last Sunday and there was only five of last year's Christy Ring Cup winning side starting the match.

Phelan admitted to the Irish Post that the only way to get a look at players in action was during the league campaign over the coming weeks.

"These players are not going to get opportunities in challenge matches and we believe in giving players an opportunity because they've been training for two months plus and they deserve it," stressed Phelan.

"But we can't try them out on a Tuesday night, it has to be a league match, we have to put them into the heat of battle and only then can we see how they go."
