It was confirmed earlier today that Kingspan Breffni Park will stage the first meeting between Ireland and Australia later this year.

Breffni Park will become the first Ulster ground since the 1990's to host the International Rules.

The first test will take place on Saturday, Ocotber 19, then a week later the second encounter will be played at Croke Park.

"Confirmation of Kingspan Breffni Park as the venue for our first test later in the year will no doubt come as a boost to the people of Cavan Town and the county of Cavan too." said GAA President Liam O'Neill in a statement released this morning.

"It is an acknowledgement of the facilities that the Cavan County Board, with the support of others, have developed at the venue and I have no doubt that its location will prove popular with supporters not just from Ulster but from Leinster and Connacht too."

"I hope it will be an occasion to remember for what was is a famous venue."

Pearse Stadium, Salthill and the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick both held the International Rules in recent years. Tweet
