Mayo mourns Tara Ryan

Swinford GAA club is in mourning following the tragic death of talented footballer Tara Ryan from Johnstown in a car accident last Friday.

The 21 year was a popular member of the local club and was due to be named on the club's "team of the decade" at a function on Saturday night.

Swinford GAA chairman Brian McLoughlin paid tribute to the young woman: "She was a great footballer and always great craic, she will be very greatly missed," he said.

He added that Ms Ryan had captained the minor team and had played at the club for years.

Drumree GAA club in County Meath also expressed their sadness at Ms Ryan's untimely passing.

She was a niece of Drumree chairman Martin Ryan to whom the club extended their sympathy.
