Five points from Sligo player Stephen Coen were crucial as IT Sligo secured their first win of the FBD League against NUI Galway at the Connacht GAA centre yesterday.
The Michael Moyles managed outfit held a 0-9 to 0-6 half-time advantage and they extended their lead to five points thanks to Coen and Michael Forde.
NUI Galway rallied in the closing ten minutes by IT Sligo never looked like losing the fixture.
Both teams now turn their attention to the upcoming Sigerson Cup competition.
