The GAA world is in shock today following the untimely passing of Kerry legend Paidí Ó Sé.

Aged 57, Mr Ó Sé passed away at his home in Ventry this morning.

One of the GAA's greatest ambassadors, Paidí won eight All-Ireland SFC medals, 11 Munster SFC medals and five All Stars during an illustrious playing career with the Kingdom.

His medal collection also included four NFL, four Railway Cup and two Kerry SFC medals.

Paidí also enjoyed great success as a manager when guiding his native county to two All-Ireland and six Munster SFC successes.

He subsequently moved on to manage Westmeath and acquired hero status in the Lake County when masterminding a first ever Leinster SFC victory in 2004.

The Ventry publican also did a stint as manager of Clare while his nephews Darragh, Tomas and Marc have continued the proud family tradition on the playing field.

In a brief statement, Kerry GAA said: 'It is with deep regret that Coiste Chontae Chiarraí has been informed of the unexpected death earlier this morning of one of the county's most outstanding footballers, Paidí Ó Sé.

'The Chairman of Coiste Chontae Chiarraí, Mr Patrick O'Sullivan, on behalf of all GAA Gaels, wishes to express his deep sympathy to the Ó Sé family on this sad occassion.

'Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal'.
