John Paul (JP) O'Brien, a 22 year old former St Pat's student, from Nobber, had a car accident days before he was due to tog out with his beloved Nobber in the Junior "C" Championship Final in August this year. It happened at Liscarton, Navan on the main Kells/Navan Road just after dark (9.30pm) when loose black cattle hit his car.
Twelve weeks later John is still in a state of paralysis from his neck down and is in need of 24/7 care. It is expected that he will be released from the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dunlaoire, into the care of his family in January 2013. A major extension & alterations to the family home are required to meet JP's needs, as deemed necessary by his medical care team, at a cost in excess of €100,000. The cattle owner had no insurance cover, leaving the burden of providing JP's facilities and 24/7 care entirely on his family.
JP, who was due to graduate with a B.A. from Maynooth University College in October gone by, worked part-time in Cabra Castle Hotel to help fund his education. In association with the Management & Staff of the hotel, many relations, friends & associates of JP and his family, working under the team banner of "JP United" will host a fundraising night to help raise the necessary funding for the project. Cabra Castle Hotel is covering all costs of the night - food, music by The Urge, ticket & poster printing and all profits from the bar will be donated to the fund. Staff are giving their time free.
JP has friends in your area, and in the coming weeks, tickets will be sold (house to house) for the project, by people from your area. Tickets are €25 each and you are asked for your generous support for JP and his family. It so easily could have been any one of us or a family member.
