Double blow for Stradbally
November 13, 2012
Newly crowned Waterford senior football champions Stradbally have hit with a double blow ahead of this Sunday's Munster club SFC semi-final.
John Hearne and Trevor Costelloe, both of whom won their eighth county medal for their club, have been ruled out of the last four clash with Cork champions Castlehaven after suffering injury in the win over The Nire last Saturday night.
X-rays afterwards confirmed that midfielder Hearne suffered a broken bone in his leg, while corner-back Costelloe picked up a severe concussion. The latter carried on for two minutes before team mentors realised that he had to be substituted.
"To have won without these two stalwarts says all that needs to be said about their heart and commitment to their club," team manager Pat Curran told the Irish Examiner.
"The important thing is that both of them will make a complete recovery in time, but there is no point in minimising the loss they will be to us against Castlehaven. Our fellows love a challenge, however, and there will be no more formidable a challenge than this game. But be assured that we will give it our very best shot."
