Royals lose Gallagher to retirement

November 07, 2012

Meath keeper David Gallagher
Meath goalkeeper David Gallagher has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

The decision comes after Gallagher was coaxed back into the Royals squad last year by manager Seamus McEnaney following the retirement of Brendan Murphy and axing of Paddy O'Rourke from the panel.

With no Murphy sign of Murphy coming out of retirement, O'Rourke is now set to be Mick O'Dowd's first choice for the number one jersey in 2013.

O'Dowd has already cut Mark Ward and Chris O'Connor from his new squad, while Donnacha Tobin may not be an option for the new manager as he is believed to be poised for a move to Australia in the new year.
