Cluxton pondering Dublin future

Dublin's Stephen Cluxton voted the best goalkeeper of all time
Former All-Ireland winning goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton is said to be considering his future with the Dublin senior football team.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper, who kicked the Dubs' winning point in the 2011 All-Ireland SFC final against Kerry, is said to have met with new team manager Jim Gavin recently and gave no assurances to him that he would be lining-out between the posts for the county team in 2013.

Gavin is currently assembling his squad for next season and knows that the Parnells man's absence would be a major blow to the Leinster champions, as they bid to get back into the latter stages of the All-Ireland SFC.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Diarmuid Connolly is in line as one of the favourites to take of the Dublin captaincy from Bryan Cullen, who is set to take an extended break for the game, despite the fact that newly crowned county champions Ballymun Kickhams will not be able to nominate the new skipper for 2013.

"No, our county champions don't nominate the captaincy," Dublin chairman Andy Kettle tld The Irish Times, "and I don't know if that tradition has ever been in Dublin.

"It will be decided by Jim Gavin, and his management team, although I'm not aware of any nomination yet. Jim hasn't even met the players as a group yet, only talked with a few individuals."
