Former Crossmaglen and Armagh star John McEntee believes football has become "more manly again" since Pat McEnaney's appointment as chairman of the National Referees' Association.
McEnaney was known for letting games flow during his refereeing days, and it now seems the current crop of inter-county officials are adopting a similar approach.
"Pat McEnaney has made a big difference, certainly at inter-county level, because he has allowed the game to become a bit more manly again," McEntee is quoted as saying in The Irish Daily Star.
"I think there was a stage there where you nearly couldn't tackle, people were afraid to tackle. Nobody really knew what you could or couldn't do. I think he has allowed referees a bit more slack and let boys put good tackles in.
"One thing that has maybe crept in is how easy fellas go down with the intention of getting other guys sent off. Maybe that's something that should be focused on."
