DRA an option for Garvey

July 10, 2012

Conor Garvey returns for Down.
The DRA could be the next port of call for Down defender Conor Garvey if his appeal against a suspension that will rule him out of Sunday week's Ulster SFC final is unsuccessful.

Garvey is due to plead his innocence before the Central Appeals Committee tomorrow night but Mourne County secretary Sean Og McAteer has hinted that they are prepared to go all the way in their bid to get the player off the hook.

Garvey was cited for an alleged stamp on Monaghan's Karl O'Connell during the Ulster SFC semi-final and was hit with a one-match suspension.

"We will try to get the right result on Wednesday night, but if not, let's see what happens after that,'' McAteer told The Irish Independent.

Niall McParland, meanwhile, is due to return to training after he has the cast removed from his broke hand tomorrow.

"In terms of blocking balls and such like, the Ulster final may come a little soon for someone who has broken his hand,'' manager James McCartan revealed to The Irish Independent..

"Though knowing Niall, he will be in there tackling with gusto right away.''

More good news for the Ulster finalists is that Aidan Brannigan will be available again after serving a one month suspension and experienced pair Dan Gordon and Benny Coulter are also available for selection.
