24-hour hurling game set for Guinness Book of Records
May 31, 2012
A group of 46 hurlers from Cloughbawn has been assembled in a bid to enter the 'Guinness Book of Records' for completing a 24-hour hurling match.
The record breaking attempt is scheduled to take place on June 22/23 and the club has been in contact with the compliers of the book to ensure that everything is in order to make sure that they meet the standards required for a recognised record.
"Generally every year we have a charity match on St. Stephen's Day or New Year's Day," explained hurlathon co-ordinator M.J. Furlong to the Wexford People, "but this time we said that we would take it a step further."
Players from the club's three adult sides have been enlisted to take part and there will be a full backroom support of referees, score keepers, time keepers and physiotherapists. The event will be run as club fundraiser.
"The whole club is getting in behind this though the intensity of the hurling probably will not be too tough!" joked Furlong
