McCartan drops McComiskey and Gough

May 15, 2012

Derry's Joe Diver and Down's Conor Gough contest the high ball.
Paul McComiskey and Conor Gough have both failed to make Down's championship squad.

Manager James McCartan named his 37-strong summer panel yesterday and the pair are notable absentees.

McComiskey hasn't played for the Mourne County since last year but it was widely reported in February that he was about to make his return. However, that has failed to materialise.

Gough - the target of numerous AFL clubs - transferred his intercounty allegiances from arch-rivals Armagh last November and his omission seems puzzling.

Mayobridge's Keith Quinn is another who has been left out.

The squad is: A Rogers, D Hughes, K King, B McVeigh, G McCartan, D Rooney, B McArdle, D Rafferty, K McKernan, C Garvey, M Poland, B Coulter, C Maginn, D Gordon, C Laverty, D McCartan, A Carr, A Branagan, E McCartan, K Duffin, A McArdle, L Doyle, G McAnulty, P Turley, D Turley, M Miskelly, A McConville, N McParland, N Branagan, C Brannigan, O Costello, T Hanna, M McAllister, S Harrison, B O'REilly, D O'Hare, D O'Hagan.
