Limerick suffer Hickey blow

Limerick's Seamus Hickey
Seamus Hickey has been ruled out of Limerick's Munster SHC quarter-final against Tipperary on Sunday week after fracturing his elbow in freak circumstances while playing for his club yesterday.

The highly-rated defender, who was one of the stars of the Treaty County's run to the 2007 All-Ireland final, suffered the injury while taking a sideline cut during the closing stages of the first half of Murroe-Boher's 2-15 to 1-14 victory over Ahane in Cappamore. A club spokesman confirmed to hoganstand.com that he had received a "crack" on the elbow and a scan today confirmed the breakage. The injury is expected to sideline him for up two months, meaning he could miss a large chunk of Limerick's championship campaign.

Hickey only recently re-joined the Limerick squad after missing the entire Allianz League campaign due to studies in the US, and will be a massive loss to both club and county.
