Brogan to join Shefflin as Olympic torchbearer

Dublin football star Bernard Brogan will join Kilkenny hurler Henry Shefflin in carrying the Olympic flame on the Irish leg of its journey on June 6.
With just 79 days to go to the start of the London Olympics,the Olympic Council of Ireland today revealed the identity of the 41 torchbearers who will take part in the famous flame's Republic of Ireland tour. It was announced yesterday that Henry Shefflin, recently-retired Irish rugby international Shane Horgan and soccer legend Paul McGrath would be among the chosen few, and today Bernard Brogan was named among the remaining torchbearers.
Among those who will be joining the two GAA stars are former Olympic medal winners Sonia O'Sullivan, Michael Carruth, Kenny Egan, John Treacy and Ronnie Delany, Irish women's international football star Olivia O'Toole, Mark Kenneally, who has qualified for this year's Olympic marathon, and wait for it... Jedward!
The torchbearers will take part in a six-hour dash that will include a cross border ceremony, a civic event, a run on the Skyline roof at Croke Park stadium and a relay around the Irish capital.
The Olympic torch's tour of Ireland begins in east Belfast on Sunday June 3, when 400 torchbearers will begin a four-day relay around Northern Ireland. There will be a brief ceremony near the border as the torch travels to the Republic, with the handover between Irish Olympic boxing legends Wayne McCullough from Belfast and Michael Carruth from Dublin.
