All-Ireland VS football final: Holy Trinity have too much for Gallen

April 08, 2012

Gallen's Joe Maher and Conor McAleer of Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity, Cookstown are All Ireland Vocational School 'A' winners for a second time after they defeated defending champions Gallen at Croke Park on Saturday afternoon.

Holy Trinity, Cookstown 2-18
Gallen CS, Ferbane 0-7

The Ulster champions exacted revenge on Gallen after last years semi-final defeat to the Offaly School.

The opening 15 minutes was neck and neck with both sides evenly matched trading scores but Holy Trinity picked up the running for the second quarter. A spectacular goal from Kieran McGeary looked to be the games turning point as the Tyrone side went in at the break in command - 1-10 to 0-6.

Holy Trinity picked up where they left off after the resumption with James McGahan (f) and McGeary pegging over scores before Gallen got their final score of the day from a Joe Maher free.

Leading by ten points mid way through the second half - 1-14 to 0-7. Centre forward John Loughran put more misery on Gallen when he bagged their second goal after the ball had sneaked under Dylan Buckley's crossbar at the Hill 16 end.

Things got worse for Gallen when they lost Leon Fox on 52 minutes through a second yellow card but it looked over as a contest by that stage as Holy Trinity proved too much for their Offaly opponents winning by seventeen points in the finish.
