Winning margin surprises Baker

Offaly hurling manager Ollie Baker
Ollie Baker admitted surprise at Offaly's 12-point victory over neighbours Laois in O'Connor Park.

The new Faithful County boss felt Laois were badly hamstrung by having to play most of the game with 14 men following Michael McEvoy's 21st minute dismissal.

"The sending off upset what had been a competitive match up to that point and we were able to put some distance between ourselves and Laois," he said.

"I'm delighted and if you'd offered me a 12-point win beforehand I'd have taken the hand off you. The attitude of the lads is very good, they are putting in a massive effort in training and we did what we had to in the first 35 minutes when the questions were asked."

His opposite number, Teddy McCarthy, wasn't too downbeat about the result.

"We lost our shape (after the sending off) and didn't know how to handle the extra man and it is a learning curve for us all," he said.

"But we continued to compete and it was 12-11 in the second half. I'm very happy with the response from the lads."
