Cork officials have decided to ditch plans to increase the capacity of Pairc Ui Chaoimh to over 50,000.

County board secretary Frank Murphy informed delegates at Saturday night's annual convention in Pairc Ui Chaoimh that it was no longer financially viable to attempt to increase the capacity of the stadium, with total cost of the redevelopment priced between €40m and €60m, and that instead they will be aiming to maintain the current capacity of 43,500.

"We're not aiming for a capacity of 50,000 or 55,000 in the redevelopment. It would be out of financial viability to do that in the current climate. Our best aim is for our current capacity so that's what we're aiming at," Murphy stated.

"The development of the main stand and the centre of excellence are the first phase. That'll be on the lower scale of the financial commitment but the overall commitment is more futuristic."
