Brennan to discuss Kilkenny future

Kilkenny's Eddie Brennan
Eddie Brennan is set to sit down and talk with Brian Cody before making any decision on his future with Kilkenny.

This past September saw Brennan pick up a record-equalling eight All-Ireland SHC medal after the Cats' final victory over Tipperary and the 33-year-old Graigue-Ballycallan man is now sizing up his options for next year, with his manager set to be the first to know his plans for 2012.

"I don't know (about next year) and that's the honest answer," Brennan said in today's Irish Independent. "It's something that is there in the background - will I or won't I? First and foremost, I have to sit down with Brian to talk about it.

"You would have a fair idea yourself about what lies ahead. This time last year, if we had won the five-in-a-row, I probably would have gone. It's a huge part of your life when you're involved in hurling and it's hard to walk away from that. You're putting in three or four nights a week and it's a family away from your family.

"I would have said at the start of the year, if we could win it, it would be a great way to sign off. But I'll have a think about it. The family have to come into it now."

James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick recently announced his retirement from inter-county hurling at the age of 26, citing a lack of opportunities under Cody as the chief reason, and Brennan is not keen on watching on from the sidelines next season if he were to continue on.

"There are big plusses there too and it was great to get in and play a part in the All-Ireland final because that's what the whole thing is about. It's frustrating sitting up watching in the stands. You have to take the chance when it comes around and I was very fortunate that it came to me," the veteran attacker stated.
