Brian Lacey in action for Tipperary footballers
Former Tipperary and Kildare footballer Brian Lacey is set to become a selector with Limerick.
Lacey, whose appointment has yet to be ratified, will replace Ephie Fitzgerald in manager Maurice Horan's backroom team. Former Nemo Rangers boss Fitzgerald recently left the Treaty County to become Cork's new minor football boss.
"I didn't know Brian personally but we looked at the type of person we wanted," Horan told the Irish Daily Star.
"As a player he would have worked very hard on his game. He played most of his football with Kildare, but as a Tipperary man originally, he'd know the scene in Munster. We would have done some research into him and found out that he was very thorough in his own preparation.
"He's done some work with different teams and the reports there are all good as well. He's a steely guy, a very well-spoken character and very detailed in what he does, so we're happy to have him on board."
Lacey won an All-Star award at corner back in 1998 following his performances in Kildare's run to the All-Ireland final and has since been involved in a coaching capacity with Rathangan and Nurney.
