Horan gets his man

Mayo manager James Horan has added Noel Howley as the latest member of his backroom team.

Horan was keen to have Howley appointed as the Liaison Officer for Mayo senior squad, but club delegates blocked the vote at a county board meeting last week.

However, Howley will now come on board as logistics officer and looking after the Dublin based players, while county board chairman Paddy McNicholas is set to become the Liaison Officer.

Horan has been busy putting his backroom team in place over the last few weeks and the former county player believes that Mayo are finally heading in the right direction.

"We're working hard to get the possible set up in place," Horan told the Western People. "The workload and variety of information and support required to run a top class inter county team is vast.

"Mayo are still some way behind some of the top intercounty teams in terms of support staff resources, but the personnel we have enlisted are guys that can certainly add significant value to the group.

"We have a co-ordinated, focused and talented group currently in the team set up and we're looking forward to the challenges to come."
