Walsh happy to stick with Sligo

Galway manager Kevin Walsh
Kevin Walsh insists he was always going to stay with Sligo for another year.

Walsh's name was strongly linked with the vacancy in his native Galway, but after agreeing to a new two-year extension with the Yeats County at the end of last year, he says it was always his intention to honour it.

"When I was appointed last year, it was part of a two-year programme. Part of the brief was to develop players and bring them through for next year and I think we've done that," the former Galway midfielder told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"We did a lot of work with the juniors and won the Connacht title again and that was part of the plan. If we can bring two or three players through on top of getting the injured players back, hopefully we get a cleaner run at things."

After reaching the Connacht final and winning the All-Ireland JFC title last year, Sligo endured a disappointing 2011 campaign which saw them relegated straight back to Division 3 of the NFL and beaten in the championship by Leitrim and Wicklow.
