Former Wicklow goalkeeper Michael Neary is facing a 48-week ban from GAA activity.

The Leinster Development Officer - current trainer of several Naomh Eoin sides in Carlow - was cited for an incident that occurred during a Naomh Eoin / Clara Leinster club league game in July. He allegedly made comments criticising the referee in front of two Leinster Council officials.

The former Wicklow hurling coach appealed the 48-week suspension proposed but that appeal was turned down last Thursday.

He has asked Croke Park for a re-hearing and could walk away from the game if this proves unsuccessful.
