It took extra time against a fluent Kildare team, but in the end Cork claimed their 16th title in the junior football championship.

Early points from Liam Shorten and Kevin Hallissey put the Rebels two points to the good but Kildare dominated the remainder of the half and seven successive points put them five clear approaching the interval, with Conor Murphy and Darroch Mulhall impressive for the Leinster champions. Crucially Andrew O'Brien bagged a goal for Cork and when Andrew O'Sullivan followed up with a point, only a single score separated the sides at the break, 1-3 to 0-7.

Two quick Kildare points from Mulhall and Kieran Kelly had them a goal clear but Cork kept plugging away and took the lead with time nearly up. Tommy Moolick late equaliser for Kildare forced extra time with the scores tied at 1-9 to 0-12.

The sides swapped scores in the first period of added time before Hallisey and Shorten kicked the match winning scores in the final ten minutes.
