Barry-Murphy linked to Cork vacancy

Cork legend Jimmy Barry Murphy
Jimmy Barry-Murphy is being strongly linked with the vacant Cork hurling manager's job.

The St. Finbarr's legend, who managed the Rebels to an All-Ireland title in 1999, is being tipped to take over from Denis Walsh, who is also in the running for the post, despite his term having come to an end after this year's disastrous All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Galway.

Under 21 manager Ger Fitzgerald, former goalkeeper Ger Cunningham and Sean O'Brien are also viewed as likely candidates. A six-man committee, comprising three county board executive members and three club delegates, will take the first step towards appointing a new manager on Sunday.

Cork hope to have their new supremo in place by October 1.
