Kilkenny and Tipp line up for third final clash

August 16, 2011

Tipperary and Kilkenny will meet for the third year in a row in the All Ireland Hurling Final
For the first time in history, the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship final will feature the same opponents for a third successive year after Tipperary beat Dublin to qualify for another clash with Kilkenny on September 4.

Tipperary, the defending champions, finished strongly to beat Dublin by 1-19 to 0-18 in Sunday's semi-final to reach the final for a third successive year. Kilkenny will be appearing in the final for a sixth successive year, a period in which they won four-in-a- row in 2006-07-08-09.

The final promises to be a special occasion, featuring two teams who delivered outstanding contests in the last two deciders. Kilkenny won by 2-22 to 0-23 in 2009 but Tipperary gained revenge last year, winning by 4-17 to 1-18.

The return of Kilkenny and Tipperary to the final means that all the All-Ireland titles since 1999 will have been won by Kilkenny, Tipperary and Cork. It's the longest period of dominance by the top three All-Ireland winners since the start of the championship.

The All-Ireland minor final will feature Dublin v Galway. Dublin reached the final for the first time since 1983 by beating Waterford on Sunday. Dublin last won the minor title in 1965 while Galway's last title was won in 2009.

ALL-IRELAND SH HONOURS TABLE
Will Kilkenny extend their lead at the top of the honours' table or will Tipperary close the gap between themselves and the top two? Kilkenny have won the title on 32 occasions while Tipperary, who are bidding to retain the crown for the first time since 1965, are seeking their 26 th title.
