Antrim secured their 10th Ulster Minor Hurling Championship title with minimal fuss yesterday when they saw off Derry with 18 points to spare at Casement Park.

The sides were close in the first-half, as Antrim led by 0-10 to 0-6 at half-time, but a barrage of goals in the second period from the hosts ensured that Derry would not be causing an upset in Belfast.

The winners raced out of the traps in this decider with points from Stephen McAfee, the superb Conor Johnston and Daniel McCloskey, but Derry hit back to narrow the gap as two scores from Shane Farren and another from Gerald Bradley helped put the difference at four by the midway stage.

However, by the 42nd minute the Saffrons were into a 2-14 to 0-6 lead with McAfee and Daniel McKernan hitting the goals to all but kill the visitors' challenge.

McCloskey was sent through by McKernan for goal number three at the end of the third quarter, before Derry registered a goal of their own through Brian Og McGilligan in the 55th minute, but it only proved consolation as Johnston lashed in another major to round off Antrim's success.
