Clarke could be next 'Gooch', says Kernan

Armagh's Jamie Clarke
Joe Kernan says Armagh young gun Jamie Clarke has the potential to be the next Colm Cooper.

The 2002 All-Ireland winning manager has been following Clarke's progress since his underage days with Crossmaglen and believes he could be just as good as the Kerry sharpshooter if he spends more time in the gym.

"He has to keep his feet on the ground, work hard at his game, do the gym work - which he's not doing - and do the things that are going to make him better," Kernan said in the Irish Daily Star.

"If he does that, I think he'll be the next 'Gooch'."

Kernan continued: "He's a bit like Stevie (McDonnell) a few years ago. Stevie now knows the gym helps you, it adds something to your game, that you don't have - power, strength.

"Hopefully he'll learn and the boys will make sure he does that because he'll finish up losing two or three years."
