Hannigan holds no fear of Kingdom

Tipperary's George Hannigan
Tipperary midfielder George Hannigan isn't fazed by Sunday's Munster SFC opener against Kerry in Killarney.

Tipp knocked the Kingdom out of the Munster MFC in Thurles last night, and Hannigan is hoping John Evans' senior side can spring another surprise this weekend.

"I am from a different generation of footballers from what has gone before so I am not as clued in as to what other Tipperary footballers thought in the past," he said.

"But any team that I have been involved with in Tipperary football, there was no inferiority complex.

"The success we have had in the last couple of years, winning the Munster U21 championship and the Division 3 title against Down, has been good. But maybe we have to take a big scalp in the championship or bring home a Munster title to get the appreciation we deserve."

The Shannon Rovers clubman feels Tipp have a point to prove after their 12-point defeat to the Kingdom 12 months ago.

"People were right to think we had a chance and we stayed with them for 50 minutes," he recalled.

"I suppose in the last 10 or 15 minutes, the experience told and they overpowered us in the end. We were very disappointed to lose that game and I suppose we are still a bit raw from that defeat because we had high hopes of causing an upset.

"The good thing about the championship is we have another chance to rectify the mistakes we made last year. Going down to Killarney, we will not be given a chance, but we know in our hearts and souls that having trained hard and put in the effort, and with our fitness levels right, we will have enough football for them."
