The late Peter McNulty Laois
The funeral has taken place of Portlaoise and Laois football star Peter McNulty.
Hundreds of mourners from all over Ireland thronged SS Peter's and Paul's Church in Portlaoise this afternoon to pay their final respects to the 25-year-old, who died unexpectedly on Saturday. Among the gifts brought up to the altar was the Tom Markham Cup, which Peter won as a member of Laois' 2003 All-Ireland minor winning team. The Tyrone county board were thanked for their kind gesture in making the trophy available.
Peter's death has plunged Laois GAA into mourning and led to the postponement of last Sunday's scheduled Laois SFC semi-final between Portlaoise and Stradbally.
A member of the staff at Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin, he won county titles at all levels and also captained the O'Moore County to a Leinster under 21 success in 2006. He also won two Leinster club titles with his beloved Portlaoise.
