Former Mayo footballer Anthony McGarry
Former Mayo footballer Anthony McGarry has stated his desire to succeed John O'Mahony as the county's next senior football manager.

Last night the Mayo county board executive met to organise an appointment process, with the key issue being whether to appoint some from within or outside the county, and McGarry feels he's the right man for the job.

"I'm running my own business, I can manage my own time and I feel it's the right time for me," said McGarry.

"I want to do the job. I'd like to the job, I hope I get the job."

Others Mayo natives that have been mentioned for the post includes McGarry's fellow ex-stars James Horan and Denis Kearney, while John Maughan has been nominated along with outsider and current Wicklow boss Mick O'Dwyer.

An appointment could be made as soon as next Monday night when a full county board meeting is scheduled to take place.
