Patrick McWalter could miss the remainder of Wicklow's football championship campaign after cracking his kneecap during last Sunday's win over Carlow.

The wing back underwent surgery in Tullamore General Hospital yesterday and is expected to be out for around two months.

"He's out for six to eight weeks anyway which is a pity because he is a very important player for us," Wicklow selector Kevin O'Brien said of the St. Pat's clubman.

"He's very down but he's in good hands there and hopefully we are still in the championship for when he gets back. He's a very clever footballer and is an awful loss to us."

Meanwhile, Wicklow secretary Michael Murphy has confirmed that they have submitted an objection to the Leinster Council to play their Leinster SFC quarter-final against Westmeath in Tullamore. Murphy said they are objecting on the ground of the disparity in travel distance for both counties and they are seeking that the game be played in Portlaoise instead.

"The distance that we in Wicklow would have to travel is very unfair compared with that for Westmeath," he said.
