Down GAA is in mourning after the death of one of the county's greatest heroes,Clonduff clubman Patsy O'Hagan, who passed away over the weekend at his home in Galway.

Patsy was a vital part of the Down side which brought the Sam Maguire Cup across the border for the first time in 1960 and played at full-forward in the final when they defeated Kerry by 2-10 to 0-8.

The following year he lined out at wing-back when the Mourne men overcame Offaly in the decider at Croke Park to retain their All-Ireland crown.Indeed older Mourne folk reckon that the versatile Patsy played in every position for his beloved Down bar the goalkeepers spot.
He once scored four goals for Down in the old tournament played at the world famous Wembley Statium and ironically against Galway. In 1968 he was a selector for the county team when they again defeated Kerry to collect a third title that decade.

Patsy moved to Galway in the early 70s and helped to transform the Claregalway club based between the city and Tuam. His grandson Danny Cummins currently plays under Joe Kernan on the Galway senior football team. But he was always remembered amongst the Mournes and only last year Patsy along with legendary captain Kevin Mussen were inducted into the Clonduff Hall of Fame.
